  1. Hi guys,

I few days back i ordered Pioneer DVR-320s online and i got the recorder today. However i was dissapointed to learn that the recorder was made in China instead of Japan .

Can anyone tell me about these recorders that are made in China? are they as good as the one made in Japan? I thought i spend my money on something good, i hope these chinese recorders are durable, otherwise its gonna be big blow for me.

My DVD Recorder was made in Belgium. Where does mine stand on the totem pole of quality?...

  3. Nobody can predict the reliability of your unit. Why don't you not worry about point of assembly and just enjoy it?
I just found out my Braun coffee maker isn't made in Mexico like my older ones, but instead in the Chech Republic. But that's okay by me, coffee tastes the same.

  4. Almost all Pioneer DVD Burners are being assembled in China for quite some time. I have owned 3 Pioneer burners till date, 1 - DVR-106D and 2 - DVR-107D, all are assembled in China. I did not find any problem with the burners.

  7. Even more are going to be made in China and I don't see anything wrong. As I own a DVD player made from China and by far it is the best player I have among all the rest of the so call best ones out there.

Look, few decades ago, who in the North America would buy a Honda vehicle?

The reality is that China's quality control is negligible.

My Chinese made Vsonic DVD Player is Excellent. Top notch. Even plays non standard VCD/DVD templates!(Kvcd/dvd/xvcd) Same for my Malata N996. Never any problems. THEN they started outsourcing parts for both brands. Recent models quality have not been good. And that's being kind. They have a habit of building up a quality electronics brand name and tearing it down with outsourced cheaper substandard components. A consistent method of standardized HIGH quality control is needed.

That is all fine and dandy BUT....most of this thread is aimed at people who think that ANYTHING made in China is garbage and that China IS outsourced garbage.

The problem has to do with how most consumer electronics are being manufactured today. Previous manufacturing practices had the circuit board's contacts individually soldered, tested, and visually checked.

Today, the entire circuit board is just dipped into a vat of molten solder, with the non-contact surfaces coverered by solder-proof material to be removed later. This dramatically cuts manufacturing costs, and in theory prevents human error involved in older manual soldering methods.

In fact the solder vat-dunking method causes numerous problems. The contacts will work, but are prone to failure as erosion and heat-errors occur. Most repair shops in the know will just re-solder everything without even doing any initial checking to see what the problem is -- this typically fixes the machine, and prevents many future problems, and may even improve picture and audio quality.

    Cheers

    The conclusion was something like:
It is all about quality managment and not "hands"

    Very well said...

    @ Robert Black
As you also had written that your first Vsonic and Malata were good. There meant nothing wrong with the QC. It is when the owner/BODs wanted more profit, they get cheaper parts, etc. etc... This also happens to many western (including USA, Germany - I had a Brun shaver made in Germany but the quality was simply not the same) made goods.
