  1. Hello folks,
Ok, I have the Technisat PCI AirStar card and it worked great before I had to reinstall my OS...

Ive installed the latest drivers for my videocard, dvb card and my integrated soundcard. I know WMP 9 and a software with MPEG-2 decoder is needed, so I installed WMP 9 and PowerDVD 6 (had PDVD5 before). I also installed DirectX9c (had 9b before) and a pack or codecs and a bunch of free MPEG-2 codecs, but nothing goes as good as before.

My problem is that on some programs (mostly real digital programs such as live shows, weather, etc) the display looks like a DVD with the wrong field order. On old movies, it looks just fine. Sounds like a codec problem, but I've tried everything and it did not work.

    Here is my config:
    Windows XP SP1
    P4 3.06Ghz on P4C800 Deluxe
    nVidia GeForce4 Ti 4200 with AGP8X

If I read your post right, you installed a codec pack? Did it work before you did that?

Installing a whole codec pack is a just about a sure way to screw up things. The codecs conflict with each other and you get all kinds of problems.

If you install Real Player One, that can also cause problems, IMO. I use Real Alternative player. It doesn't want to take over your system like Real Player.

Unfortunately, with all those codecs installed, it's not easy to clean up. You can use Codec Sniper to eliminate the problem codecs, if you can find which ones are the problems.

For codec installation, I check to see what is needed with AVIcodec or Gspot and only install those.

  3. it was not working before the multi codec install
    real one isn't installed either
i installed Gspot and AVicodec and it says MPEG-2 is supported by DScaler Mpeg2 Video Decoder which is a free codec i downloaded from here. when i uninstall it, MainConcept MPEG Video Decoder is the next MPEG-2 supporting codec. it worked better with the first one tho, and even better when i had PowerDVD 5
Is there a way to use a specific codec or do i need to uninstall everything until i get what i want. MainConcept MPEG Video Decoder is part of Soundforge, which is a software i had before my OS reinstall...

I've never tried to change the codecs that a program uses, but in the 'Tools' to the left there are some programs that might do what you want.

RadLight Filter Manager is one and another is DirectShow Filter Manager and thirdly AVI FourCC Code Changer.

Sorry, never used these but some of the members here may be able to give you some advice with this.
