  2. Hey PWiddy,

I bought one of these a few weeks back and am overjoyed. So far I have successfully created a DVD to DVD-R Backup for one of my Star Trek TOS DVDs. Also, I have been able to create DVD-R authored with VCD movies. So far I have authored four movies onto a single DVD-R with menus and additional screenshots. It really is great to sit back and not have to putz around switching discs.

As for the testing, each DVD-R works instantly on my APEX 703. As for the Apex 600A, I needed to upgrade the BIOS for them to play. However, my Pioneer DVD-434 would not play my DVD-R backup authored with vcds. However, I have not tried to play my ST TOS backup on the Pioneer as of yet. Hope this helps!

  4. Yes it is the Pioneer A03. If I fully cram content and don't elect to test the image, it takes about 20-25 minutes for the full disc to be burned. It burns at 2X which is roughly akin to a 12x cd burner.

  6. Yo P,

Questions are A-OK. No worries. This is a really good question. Quite frankly, I built a spare machine just for my DVD burner. I have my Teac 12X CD-R installed along with the Pioneer A03. I do not burn regular CDs with my DVD Writer (though I could) and I elect not to use it to rip my DVDs. I do it on another workstation and just move the files over. Frankly, I do this to extend the life of the Pioneer DVD burner as much as possible.

As for your case, you will probably be doing ripping and CD burning equally. IMHO, you might want to remove your DVD Rom drive. Later.
