Hi all, this is my first post so forgive me if I ask the obvious or a question which has already been answered. I have just bought a Panasonic HDC-TM 10 (My first venture into HD) but am having a bit of a problem converting the MST.Files. I was under the impression that Sony Vegas would handle these files but Vegas wont even recognise the Camcorder?. I had no Problems with my Canon MV camcorder and was hoping that HD work would be just as easy!!! Can anyone point me in the direction of some editing software which will do the same job as Sony Vegas I.E Cut , edit , fade and ad an audio soundtrack. The software which came with the Panasonic will show the scenes but wont let me copy to the PC so that I can import them into Vegas after converting them???? I am at a total loss at the moment so any help would be appreciated greatly.
Many thanks in advance Pete![]()

What version of Vegas are you using? How powerful is your PC? Had you done your homework before buying that camcorder, you would know that the AVCHD format places very heavy demands on both hardware and software, if you want to edit it. That's why many of us still sing the praises of HDV.
Make sure you have the latest version of Vegas (not a trial version) and its updates, and make sure you read its System Requirements. If you follow the recommendations, you should have no problems. Vegas will edit AVCHD.
That's the most hilarious thing I've read all week. -
Sony Vegas Movie Studio 9 works perfectly with the mts (AVCHD) files generated by my panasonic hd camcorder. I have never used SVMS to transfer the videos from cam. I always transferred the files with explorer and imported to Vegas movie studio. I this AVCHD doesn't work with old version of vegas, which i suspect is your case.

AVCHD is not the place to start video editing. The technology is in its infancy-unless you like problems, or are just going to dump to your tv-forget editing. This is for the a vanguard.

post your PC specs. I edit AVCHD just fine with a phenomII x4 3.0ghz, 4gb RAM, lots of HDD :P
There are hoops to jump through, but once you get a process down you can do just about anything you need to. -
Thanks for your comments so far,my system is Intel Pentium (R) D 2.66GHz,32 Bit, 1 gb ram 2 hard drives 1 @ 200 GB the other @160 GB, I am running Windows XP on one and Windows 7 Ultimate on the other. The Program I was trying to use was Sony Vegas 10 HD Platinum. The problem is that Vegas wont recognise the MTS format? Now I dont know if I am being a bit noobish, but I tried capturing from the Camcorder but Vegas wouldnt even aknowledge that the Camcorder was attached (USB) I then copied the files and tried importing them but as I say Vegas wont even add these...thanks Pete

what does the manual suggest to do as far as editing and transfering?
how do you know vegas won't recognize the mts format if it doesn't see the camcorder to begin with?
sometimes, you can change the extension to .m2ts and it works...
you're supposed to put your computer specs in your profileLast edited by zoobie; 4th Aug 2010 at 02:35.

Hi again, The reason I know Vegas wont recognise mts files is because I copied these files from the SD card and tried to import them, These didnt show in Vegas. The manual says to transfer using the Software that came with the Camcorder but this is just a basic editor and burner....thanks Pete
