I searched, but couldn't find exactly what I wanted to do so here it goes:

Mmkay, so me and my buddies want to "spice up" LOTR a bit... A part of that "spicing up" involves dubbing it from English to Swedish (but not translating it ). I've read that multi-language dvd's have an I-track or something, where the "talk-audio" is stored. So if you choose spanish for instance, they speak spanish etc (i don't actually know if the LOTR dvd has multiple language files but anyway). By multi-language I mean where the speaking has been dubbed to different languages that you can choose from the DVD menu.
    So my question is:

Is there a way, that you know about, to extract/rip the "talk-audio-track" from a multi-language-dvd, edit it, and then put it back together?

And I don't mean just extract the whole audio and then try to cut the talk away in a audio editing program, cause I know that's practically impossible.
But think about it, if there are mutiple languages on a DVD, surely they must be stored on a different track than the background sound and music? And if so, that track must be extractable (is that a word?)?

It must be possible, it would be awesome! Hmm.. well...

Most DVDs don't have seperate voice only tracks - in fact I have never seen a movie that does this. The vocals are mixed with the main audio as it is the only way to make is sound right, pan when necessary, and generally fit in.

I don't believe you can do what you want without actually trying to strip the voices out of the original audio track, unless you can get the original recordings and remix them - do you know Peter Jackson ?

I believe this 'dialogue only'channel is a myth. It makes no sense, doesn't fit with the DVD spec, and I have never seen a disk that uses this method to present multi-language. They all contain discreet mixeds of the enture audio track for each language.
