Might want to check to make sure that your PC is not overheating.

  3. Do you close down most or all other programs? Might also be a RAM issue.

  4. Ctrl-Alt-Del, check what's running. What are you using to shrink and burn? I stopped using EZCD Creator long ago because Nero was better and there were serious conflicts between the two, even when only one was running.
I'd think that an overheating issue would cause the PC to turn off or restart on its own. The PC will freeze if you are overclocking, but this is due to the instability of the processor at overclocked speeds in addition to the processor overheating. Most newer PCs have power management built in to the BIOS and it will result in the shutdown or restart.

RAM issues should slow things down but not cause freezing. Windows will use the HDD as virtual memory to compensate for low RAM. If RAM becomes an issue, there will be a Windows message saying that RAM is low.

Did you check Event Viewer to see if Windows reported the problem and logged it?

My computer did the same thing not too long ago.

Heard clicking sound, it was the second hard drive going out after so many DVD backup processes over the last year (over 300!)
