  1. Apparently what I wish to do is utterly alien to the video industry. I'd like to (1)record a TV program onto my DVD recorder that sits on top of my TV, (2) copy the VOB file onto my HD to edit out the offensive commericals, and then (3) burn the program back onto a DVD disk.

I can't get past step (2) because I need to convert the VOB file to MPEG; since no program I have tried can edit VOB files. Am I unwittingly trying to do something illegal by copying some football?

I "fixed" your subject line to
    better describe your problem.

Please don't just say "help" in future.
    Thanks

Yes, TDA to import from DVD.

Also, in the future, use a topic title that actually describes your problem.

    From here:

Try to choose a subject that describes your topic.
Please do not use topic subjects like Help me!!! or Problems.

VOBBlanker edits vobs. Works pretty well. Ive only used it on movies that I back up, not from the TV. But it might work.

    If in doubt, Google it.

  8. VideoReDo will edit .vobs and is the easiest, quickest program you could possible get to do the job. the newest version even has a feature to search and mark the commercials.

Get the free trial and I'm pretty sure you will happily buy it.

Also, I'm glad Supreme 2k mentioned your subject title. That is one of my pet peeves. If people use Help as a title there is no point to having titles.

I like to use DVD Decrypter (IFO mode/no file splitting) to get one large VOB on my HDD. Then, as an alternative to the above suggestions, I often use Womble MPEG VIDEO WIZARD. With MVW you can edit your VOBs, add text, sound & video effects too. It has a 30 day free trial, and I think they are offering a discount coupon, too. MVW is sweet!

ReJig is another tool to demux the m2v video and whatever audio is present in the VOB(s)
