Is this actually the case? Only +R/RW recorders can hide chapters?
Someone mentioned this on another forum, so I was just kinda wondering
about it since my only experience is with + and not -.

You know....put a chapter mark at the begginning of the commercials and at
the end, then hide that chapter. So, when it's played back on the recorder
(or another player), the commercials are skipped over. In other words,
you're just editing out certain sections of what has been recorded.
You're not actually "erasing" them, they're just "hidden" like they were
never there. -
Huh! I guess I've stumped everyone on this Forum, then?
Can you edit stuff out when recording on (minus)-RW dvd's or not? -
You can edit stuff out if you use DVD-RW in VR mode. You have two options to remove commercials on DVD-RW VR mode recordings:
- Create a playlist with the chapters you want to keep (nothing is removed)
- Erase chapter, the data is removed.
So you cannot do the exact same thing as hide chapter on DVD+RW, but close enough.
Only problem with DVD-RW in VR mode is that they usually cannot be played back on other DVD players, whereas DVD+RW usually can be played back.
Try downloading a manual for a Sony DVD-recorder, they have a nice table describing what you can do and cannot do with different formats.
