  1. The LiteOn 5005 is available in my area at Wal-Mart for $199.89 CND.
This would be my first DVD burner, and I wanted to make sure before buying it that there are no known problems with this particular Dec./04 model (e.g. are there still any heat issues?).

I'll probably get a Pioneer with HDD later, but the 5005 is supposed to be able to burn Audio CDs as well, so that's why I am considering it first.

Although I have read several posts on the 5005 (some good, some bad), any RECENT positive or negative feedback on this unit would be appreciated, since the quality with these burners frequently seems to change from one month to the next. **Thanks a lot...tac7

I have a Nov/04, I dont have any heat issues, this one came with a fan. It does occasionally get the jitters in the image, but I've recorded alot of movies with it and never had a coaster. I dont like some of the problems this recorder has like
    1.jittering image
2.out of synch audio (especially on SLP mode) occasionally on EP/LP modes.
3.does start instantly recording when you press record, it sometimes stalls for half a minute until it starts recording

  3. Only issues are mono tuner but stereo otherwise and noise on front audio jacks. Otherwise I like it.

and you mentioned it is available at Wal-Mart.
Is this in Ontario? (I am in the GTA area...)

    Thanks for the info.

Thanks for all the replies... I guess I'll get a 5005 and hope the discs burned will play back on other players too (fingers crossed)... tac7
