I've been reading some stuff lately about conversions, mainly on how to convert AVI files to MPEG-2 DVD compliant files. But I have some doubts: for instance, on the guides using CinemaCraft Encoder (CCE), I often see references to the use of AviSynth as a frame server.

So, what exactly is AviSynth used for? Is it really necessary, in CCE, to use AviSynth to convert movie files to an MPEG-2 file?

On a quick look over the official CCE user's guide, I can only see a reference to AviSynth, that is one of the possible input file formats (along with, among others, AVI files).

So, can't we just use only AVI files and forget AviSynth?

    Thanks,

    Mário

You must use avisynth or some other tool if you need to resize the avi to dvd compliant resolution/video size. CCE can't resize.

  3. Yeah, avisynth is one of the best utilized tool around. Learn to use it, very useful.
    Quality is my policy.

v2.70 I believe is capable of resizing.
You don't even really need to learn how to use it though. You can simply use something like fitCD to generate the script for you.
