i have 2 burners installed on my machine! one is a sony dvd + the other a nec both x8 speed.
Now first thing is my nec when i put in any dvd disk it takes ages to read it,and keeps spinning around and soesnt do anythink IS THIS BROKE.
Second question === now i ahve a sony dvd writer x 8 speed! burns dvds o.k but when it comes to playin them in my stand alone dvd player they dont always work,nec one burnt disks and they all worked 100%.
is there an option on my drive or is it set up wrong or i heard sumthink about the volume having to be in capitals!!! sorrry im think guys!! hope u can help!

You NEC player probably needs cleaning. Just a small chunk of dust on the laser lens can cause problems. Try some 'canned air' first, then a non-abrasive cleaning disc. If that doesn't work, try denatured alcohol and a cleaning swab, because you have nothing to loose at that point. Keep the swab dampened, not dripping to keep from washing off lubricant on the laser slide.
As far as your new burner, problems are usually first the media, (Try some different brands. Not all burners are compatible with all brands) make sure your DVD creation method is correct. If you are using Shrink to backup, this shouldn't be a problem. You might have to further describe your method. Are you making them from scratch? What software are you using? + or - media?
As far as the DVD drive setup, if it works at all, probably OK. More likely a software issue or media. -

The media could be too new for your NEC burner.
