Anyone know of a site where I can input the options or capabilities for camcorders, and it will spit out possible models for me to consider? I must not be using the right search terms or something, as I'm not finding that kind of a site.

    Thanks for any help folks.

Don't know if they have a search feature such as that but www.camcorderinfo.com is a great site for reviews.

Yeah, I know about that site, I've been there recently and read quite a lot of it - great info.

I don't want to have to start by combing through hundreds of model descriptions though. When I went for a DVD recorder I asked for input on good ones and started from there.

I didn't get much when I asked that (here) about camcorders though, so thought I'd try another approach. I'm looking for excellent low light performance, low weight and bulk, and ideally a 3 chip system, although a good 1 chip would be fine I think. I *am* just starting out with these after all.

So, if anyone has any recommendations (on a site or even just a model to look at) please shout it out - thanks all.

    You left out your budget.

Cheapest that meets your goal is the Panasonic GS-400.

If you come back saying you can't afford it then shame on you.

That actually looks like a great model, I'm going to really look into that one. ~2 lbs with minimal gear, fairly small, and a great quality review, thanks for the tip.

As for budget, well, that's always somewhat variable. I think though that it would be in my ballpark, if I can afford it at all. Have to decide what to get first - this, or more hiking gear, probably can't do both this year. <sigh> So much equipment, so little time....
    My gear:

    - JVC HR-S9911U SVHS VCR
    - Datavideo TBC-1000
    - JVC DR-M10 DVD writer
    - Sony Steadyshot DCR-TRV340 NTSC Digital8 Camcorder
