Ok, I just bought my dvp642 and have 2 questions:

    1. While playing an audio cd, I don't want that ugly BLUE "dvd-logo" screen to show up all the time (I want it dark-blank)...Can I remove it ?

    2. I burnt a movie (*.avi / 700Mb) as data into a maxxel cd-rw. When I try playing it, it does only 5secs and aborts, displaying the "CODEC. NOT SUPORTED" msg...What am I missing?

p.s I can make a screenshot of GSpot stats for that .avi file if needed...

  2. don't think you can change the wallpaper. i think there's some custom subtitle firmware that had the wallpaper changed, but that would be default. just turn your TV off when you listen to your music CDs, and leave your reciever/amp on (assuming you have that type of setup).

yeah, you probably have qpel or gmc. post a screenshot.

  4. 'GMC' was used for the file you burned (you can see the small green letters 'GMC' in the top right).

Re-encode to xvid or divx without gmc or qpel settings cause the philips 642 doesnt support those features.

Interestingly enough, the unit will play DivX files with GMC (but not q/QPEL). But it will not play XviD files with GMC (or QPEL, of course).

Reason being, XviD uses 3 warp points for GMC whereas DivX only uses 1 (which is about useless, anyway).

Just a point of interest. But it was nice as once I figured this out, I had a boatload of DivX files I realized I could play.
