Please note that Adobe Encore runs only on Windows XP. If you are a die-hard Windows 2000 user, Adobe Encore is totally useless.

Is this still true? B/c I'm one of those diehard Win2K Pro users. I would think that the maker of the software tried to fix this problem. But I'm not sure so I figured I'd ask you guys.

You could always dual-boot or have swappable boot drives for when you need a different OS.

I dont know that much about comps I usually have my cousin help me out when I'm reformatting and stuff. He's the one who recommended Win2K over XP, I dont know much about either but I always felt more comfortable using 2K anyway and like the feel of it better. He suggested it for other reasons that I didnt know what he was talking about

In many respects Windows XP is exactly the same as Windows 2000 -- but in many respects it is also very much superior to Windows 2000.

You can quickly configure Windows XP to have the EXACT same "look-and-feel" of Windows 2000 -- same start bar, colour schemes, same window operations.

Whenever I load a fresh install of XP, I always kill all the XP goofiness that comes standard (the goofy status bar, goofy simplified control panel, etc). And within a few minutes I have a replica of my Windows 2000 setup (except with all the additional features of XP).

There are many die-hard Windows 2000 users still swimming in the pool, but I don't know anyone who has tried Windows XP (for a significant period of time) and has decided to go back to Windows 2000.

Besides, support for Windows 2000 will slowly disappear...and why get left behind?

Having said all that, if you have a fairly complex setup in Windows 2000 (lots of proprietary hardware, drivers, etc) and everything is working fine...I wouldn't necessarily upgrade.

Best not to fix stuff that ain't broken.

Most users I know (myself included) shyed away from XP when it 1st came out, but since SP1 + driver updates + Security Fixes, have switched. Seems to make a great difference. (Not all that enamoured of SP2 though)

***Strong Word of Caution: Get XP Pro, NOT XP Home. Too many goofy stuff in Home, plus lacking of IP security features and tighter configurability, etc.

If you upgrade, you can almost automatically configure it to dual boot. Plenty of guides on the NET.

A lot of Adobe new stuff only "plays" on XP. Premiere Pro and Audition, are two that I am aware of. I am an owner of CoolEdit 2000, and since Adobe bought Syntrillium, I was offered a discounted upgrade to Audition, but was unable to take advantage(?) of the upgrade.

Since Adobe is one of the most pirated software companies, they may be about to start requiring the more intrusive "registrations" like XP does. The XP platform would facilitate this new "feature".

I no longer even consider any Adobe products for either my company, or my personal use.

Adobe is up to their ears in 'gators plus they have made all these acquisitions. They have ample competition from Vegas and Apple FCP. They need to cut ties with the past and make a competitive new product.

I can understand Adobe dumping Win98, Win2000, MAC and UNIX. Now lets see what they can build for the future!

Each year when I go to NAB, I evaluate the available updates. Last year I decided in favor of Vegas. Let's see this year.
