Is there a utility I can use to fuse these two files .m2v, .ac3, to make a UDF-burnable VIDEO_TS in toast? Can i use ffmpegx?

    yes...

in tools section browse the two files, in Post-Processing check "Author as DVD (VIDEO_TS)", choose DVD as "Mux as..." option and click the "Mux as..." button.

  3. You can do this in Toast 6, no additional tools are required.

Choose the Video tab, then DVD-Video in the drawer. Name your files with the same name, just different extensions (e.g. track1.m2v and track1.ac3). Then drag the m2v file into Toast and Toast will find the audio. Do the same thing with any other clips you have, adjust the pictures you want for your menu, and then burn.

Does Toast only use the base filename of the video file in order to find a compatible corresponding audio track to mux with?

    Won't toast re-encode these though?

Toast has*muxed the streams without re-encoding them every time I've used the method maetel99 described.

If Toast finds an audio file with the same base name, it automatically includes that audio track. If it can't find something with the same name, it prompts you to choose the audio track. Using the same base name for both the video and audio is just a shortcut.

The thing not to do is manually add audio tracks or Toast will gripe about needing Jam (which I don't have). Just add video tracks and Toast will search or prompt for the audio tracks. And audio/video tracks of different lengths will mux using the length of the longer track, which could be useful.

  9. This is great information. I have never tried toast for an ac3 file.

Too add to this post, does anyone have a great method for subtitles?
ffmpegX works great, but can't add chapters, Studio pro also does an excellent job, but can't import subtitles.

    Anyone?

Now that I've got more understanding of handling AC3 I'm looking for a "no-budget" way to mux a DTS audio stream with video since Toast won't do it. The goal is to generate a file with only muxed MPEG-2 (M2V) and DTS streams for EyeHome playback. So far I've used 0SEx but don't want to rely on it since it's not particularly stable and development stopped long ago (plus it may not work at all on Tiger). yadeX will demux DTS streams but unfortunately doesn't have 0SEx's remux functionality.
