I attempted to read the media info for a blank Verbatim 8x +R DVD and the software returned the following answer: "Your drive does not support the commands required to read the MID codes on this media" I was able to read the info for a disc that was used and it indicated the media code was RICOHJPNR01. My DVD writer is an early model Plextor. It is the PX 504A. I recently upgraded the firmware to the latest version. This all started for me while I was deciding on which Verbatim media to purchase. I had purchased some DVD+R 4X last year and I wanted to buy some more. I went to one of our Staple outlets and they had some Verbatim DVD+R 8X on sale. I was quite suprised that the 4X were so much more expensive. Is there a difference in quality between the ones rated at 4X as opposed to the ones rated at 8X?

Firmwares of real old burners (like the PX-504, a rebadged NEC ND-1100) don't support checking the id on blank DVD+R/RW media.
