Untill recently I haven't had any problems with my DVD drives, playing and burning stuff has been fine, after writing an image to my hard drive using Clone DVD and AnyDVD (which I normally use) both my drives are now acting very strange, if I open any program such as Nero, Cdex, Clone DVD then it locks the computer, I cannot close or exit from any of the opened programs, even just trying to open a DVD or CD it locks up, my only option being to manual switch the computer off, task manager will not close them either, going back to a restore point also didn't have any result, would appreciate any help fixing this problem.

Go under "c:\program\files" and look for applications you recently installed. The culprit might be one of those. Also, if your apps use ASPI or WNASPI32 , you might want to make certain you're using newer versions of the above.

Another potential problem is TMPGenc DVD creator, as the DVD burning engine conflicts with Nero.

Thanks for the info, I know Im haven't installed any programs recentley and I don't have TMPGenc installed, I used Aspichk to check my ASPI layer and it gave the message "Aspi is not properly installed. One or more componets have been replaced with older versions of the software." I used Force ASPI and re-booted as par instruction but it still gives me the same message

Disable one of the two Drives, then test your apps. Disable the other drive and test again. Perhaps one of the drives is going bad. It is also possible your ANYDVD driver is corrupted. Update your software to the latest ANYDVD.
