  2. witch one?
I like the Warlock series from Soloman. It uses a 5 point Pentagram processor. It outperforms others in it's class threefold. It features an Inquisitor burner and water cooling to keep you covered whether you sink or swim with your projects. I think its still manufactured in Salem. I'll look for a link.

Seriously though Dell still makes a decent stock machine. Doubt it sports the burner he wants. HPs usually feature that. And you have to use special discs if you want to burn the label on it. Takes a long time from what I hear and media is very expensive.

  3. Oh check the 4700 series from Dell. You can get the features you want in it (barring the burner). The lower end series 2300 or whatever it is now has no PCI-E or AGP slot and isn't very upgradable. the 8400 is probably overkill and the game series is priced rediculously.

I thought only HP had the LightScribe drives?
I think you do require a special type of disc if you want to LightScribe on them but ask when you buying it because I not sure.

The HP Lightscribe is a REBADGED BENQ 1625 drive. Special discs are needed for the LIGHTSCRIBE & they are expensive. From what I've read it takes about 20 minutes to print on the disc which in my opinion is too long when you have to take into consideration the burn time as well.

with reboot to just build your own pc.

    Amen brotha!

Building a Pc yourself is not only the cheapest way to go, but you can build the system exactly the way you want it with the stuff you need, and not all the excess fluff you don't.

Plus you can be proud of your custom-built creation when it is done

well he may not want to build his own but from what you describe that he wants to work with video and play games(good video card?) it might be a good time to learn. to do anything serious on a computer you gotta A) build it yourself or B) pay out the a$$ for something you could have built for a fraction of the cost. the only thing pre made puters are good for is browsing the internet

Exactly. Me personally, i only need a Pc for "basic" stuff such as Internet browseing,CD burning, etc. I don't do gaming or other high-end stuff on a Pc.

So for me a 2.8Ghz Celeron, motherboard with intergrated graphics and a 40Gb hardrive is more than i'll ever need(which is what i used in my current system).

However, if i were to go and buy a pre-built computer, the people would try to sell me a Pc with a Pentium 4,high-end graphics card,80Gb HDD,etc. and charge me a fortune for all that extra crap i don't need and won't make use of.

Check out ABSPC.com. You can customize it. They are reasonably priced and their support is very good. They also dont make you send back the whole box. If you think you are having sound card issues , they just send a new one. I have bought my last 3 pcs from them and havnt had problems.
