  1. Hi everybody;
    I'm recording my home movies from an 8mm camera to DVD-R using Zenith DVD413 recorder. The DVD copy plays in all all my other DVD players but when I try to play it on a computer it does not play the DVD. I can't even see the files.
    Can anybody tell me what's the problem?

    Thanks

    Here's the link to your drive.

    It would appear that your HP drive is only +R/RW compatible, and therefore not capable of reading the -R/RW DVDs recorded on your standalone machine. It's cheap and easy to replace your HP drive with a Pioneer 109 or NEC 3520. These drives are both + and - compatible. Newegg usually has a good price on these.

    Good Luck

    The HP is limited to DVD+R with regards to burning, not reading.

    Have you finalized your disc before attempting to use it in your computer? (Discs that haven't been finalized won't work, except in the Zenith.)

    If Shocker Milwaukee is correct about the -/+ issue, you might want to check with Zenith and see if they have UDF Reader software available.

    Also, certain discs simply don't play in certain drives because of manufactoring or authoring techniques. You might try a different brand of disc. Preferably one that has been manufactored in Japan. (Taiyo-Yuden is my pick.)

    Finally, check this link for more info.

    I disagree. A DVD drive is a DVD drive. It will read DVD-Rs, it just won't write to them. I have one of the first LiteOn writers that was + only. It won't write to a DVD-R, but it has no problems reading them.

  9. HP 200i

    My brother has one in his computer. I just stuck in a DVD-R with a DVD-Video on it and it played.

    I'll post web-cam shots if you don't believe me.

  10. I believe you... if you say so... it is just that their web page does not list it. And trust me... I saw DVD-ROMs that does not play + or - and play only THEIR format.
