  1. I recently purchased a Leadtek WinFast TV2000 XP Expert card to capture old home movies on VHS to DVD (my first capture card). The VCR being used is a Sony SLV-N51 with composite video (RCA plugs). The problem is that, on some tapes, I get purple and green flickering ever so often near the top of the frame (this even happens on some commercial tapes). And when I run the captured .avi file through VirtualDub to deinterlace, the flickering gets worse. But if I playback the tapes through the same VCR on my television, there is no flickering or flashing. I'm not sure what this is or how to fix it, can anyone help?

You said commercial tapes so the must likely cuase is microvision

  3. Yeah, thanks for the replies but I don't think it's macrovision. It happens on home movies as well. I also have a de-macrovision box that I hooked up but the flickering is still there. Also, my card is supposedly not sensitive to macrovision. Anything else it might be?

Here is a short clip of the problem (700KB):

I can confirm the your capture card has no problem with macrovision.

    So Lordsmurf is probably correct.

    He usually is.

I also have the same problem. But I have not yet seen it happen when the source is not VHS/Betamax.

Looking at forums, and reviews, it seems that this problem started only recently - see reviews on Leadtek TV 2000XP Expert. There are 3 reviews made recently that describes the same problem.

Could it be possible that we received a bad batch of capture cards? Or is it caused by the latest drivers?

I did try 3 VHS players (Philips, Panasonic, JVC) and 2 Betamax players (both Sony), all of which encountered the same problems.

Besides, the flickering color problem does not appear when the VCRs are directly connected to the TV.

The only other thing to do is try a different capture card if possible.
