    Hi

I have recently purchased a Sony DVP - NS930V and im not that happy with it, I use dvd+rw disks alot and this seems to skip in lots of places even when using brand new top quality dvd+rw disks, my old dvd player didnt do this and worked like a dream.

Can anyone suggest a really good dvd player, price range doesnt matter that has great playback of these types of dvds and also all other matters, I use 4x burning as well as 2.4x so any past good experiences playing back dvd-rw would be appreciated.

    thanks

  3. The Philips 642 is a basic functional low cost player that plays almost everything. Some people have gripes with failure out of warranty but I have had similar problems with very high reputation equipment. I currently just get good quality and expect it to last a few years if I am lucky. Try Amazon.

Still a few bugs in the system...

  4. Did you use to play these rw+ in another player without problems? It may be your burner is not making a very good quality burn.

I had the 642 and thought the video quality sucks. I like my Zenith 318, but not sure how it plays +rw.

According to a recent Consumer Reports article Panasonic makes some of the best DVD players and stand alone DVD recorders. Unfortunatlly I cannot recall the specific model numbers but you should be able to find a quality DVD player from Panasonic.

  6. Consumer Reports has been wrong many times. I had 2 different Panasonics die after 7 months and did an Google search on the error message and was amazed at the thousands of reports of similar problems on many machines. Panasonic, of course, never admitted any defects and kept right on making and selling them. Additionally, Panasonic is not predictable about what format it will choose to play. Lastly, if you want feedback on the superior status of Panasonic recorders, just go ahead and post a message to that effect and see what happens. And I own one, the E50.

The Philips 642 has had almost equal numbers of posters on both sides of the quality of image issue. I can tell no difference on a 34 inch HD. Most people who don't like it have bigger sets, but some of them say it is as good as anything they have seen. You have to see for yourself on that one. If you want to get it from a local place that may accept returns, try Target.

    Hello there,

I have the Panasonic F85 (edit- I've had this player for nearly two years now and have not had any problems yet) and have been very happy with it. I know many people on this site as well as others dislike the panasonics and that's ok. For me this player has played nearly everything that I have thrown at it (Only thing that it seems to not like is a burned Dual layer disk and even those play from time to time). According to the panasonic docs, it is only listed to play -R and - RW, but it plays +R and +RW just fine as well (Panny is part of the -R camp if I remember correctly and they don't want to advertise the +R standard).

It's like everything else, for evey person that recommends something, you'll find at least one person that will criticize it. Although I will agree with the consumer reports comment, they have been wrong before. I have an online membership to their site, but I don't use that as the only determination in my purchasing habits.

My suggestion, is take one of your disks to the local electronics shops and see if they'll let you try it out.

And as Heff said, have you been able to play these disks before, in your old player perhaps? If you were able to play them, then ok maybe the player. If you've never been able to play them, maybe the burner. Know anybody else that has a burner that could do a test burn on those disks for you?

    Hi

Yes the disks worked fine on my old Panasonic RV- 31 until it started eating my disks.

I have two burners, Pioneer DVR-106D, and Pioneer DVR-109, I always use the Pioneer DVR-106D because it works much better than the 4x burning of the DVR-109.

So basically as the disks worked much better with a Panasonic dvd player before, you would advise me to go for a model made by them ?

    thanks
