  1. I didn’t find this in a search of the forums, is it possible to convert a wide screen DVD to a standard 4:3 format. If it is what tools would I need to use and hopefully a guide on how this is done. I have three old DVD’s of Clint in his prime and want to convert them to fill the screen on my TV

    Thanks for your help

  2. You can fill the screen, but the sides will be cut off, or everyone will appear really tall.
    Which would you like?

  4. This is a bad idea. Most conversions that are done professionally have added pan and scan moves to keep the action onscreen. Doing this conversion yourself could result in actors being cut out of scenes while delivering dialogue, or even entire important events chopped out of your film.
IMO, widescreen rules. I buy everything widescreen.

Easiest way is to get a DVD player that has a zoom function.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly is a good example of why pan and scan is such an ugly way to screen a movie. The final shoot out on the clay pan has characters at the extremities of a 2.35 frame. If you frame only the middle section you will lose all trace of them.
