Buyer Beware...Princo seems to be a 99% no no based on a majority of posts around here.

There are not 100% bad or they wouldnt make them. Ive used quite a few when I first started burning dvds and they worked fine, scanning them now doesnt show great results but they still play fine.
A lot of the opinions youll find here are second hand, without actual experience, just second hand info. that some will swear by.
That being said I wouldnt buy them now, because I have found other brands I like better.COPIED OVER 600 DVDS SO FAR -

I cannot speak for Princo DVD-R x4 in any other country outside of Australia. At present I know 24 people and myself are using them exclusively and are not having any problems whatsoever. I first stated using them 12 months ago after visiting LordSmurf site (nomorecoasters) at which time, he stated: "he had burned hundreds of them with a 99% success rate" which seemed pretty good to me. He doesn't seem to have that opinion now, however, I have continued to use them and continue to have no problems at all.

PRINCO, like RITEK, had a short timeframe where the discs were good. That time has passed. Long ago. That was mostly burning 4x discs at 2x also, back when few people had the new $300+ 4x burners.

Garbage. Crap. Junk. Caca.
Other than that they're fine
Really, don't go near Princo, no matter how low the price is. -
Hmm, I used to get chewed out for suggesting these things erase data after a few months....
In the future, here are the nifty media opinions:

Not only were they crap to start with in my Panasonic E50 and TDK burner, many of the ones I did get to record and finalize are now going bad and will not play less than a year later. Stay away from CompUSA Princo junk. Really bad stuff. Apparently those guys will sell anything.

Princo are so crappy, it wouldn't surprise me if the slightest mishandling would do them in. It probably doesn't matter to someone who has one go south on them what the actual mechanism is, but the distinction is important. Our resident media guru agrees. But I guess the important thing, and the one that few people disagree with, is that Princo isn't worth the jewel case it sits in :P
Here's an interesting little article I posted about a year ago about just how well the dye retains data, and also some misconceptions about the longevity of pressed DVDs.
