  1. hi all,

My NEC reads great and fast, but sometimes, usually after writting a dvd, it reads every dvd at 2-3x speed. And when I restart computer than it's back to normal. I mean it's ok that it works, but it's silly to restart every time...

any clues? i thought it might me Daemon Tools, but it isnt... the FW is Liggy 1.06

  2. anybody, please.... i tried this: burned a dvd, and then tried with nero cd/dvd speed and it started with 6.5x and finished with 15x, but when I went to explorer and tried to copy a movie it took significantly longer (as did in DVD Decrypter)...

please help couse it's driving me crazy

  3. This drive (as do all) reads different formats at different speeds. Burned -+R are very fast, RW are slower, SL pressed DVDs slower, and DL pressed DVDs are slowest. Are you comparing different media speeds?
Still a few bugs in the system...

  4. I'm having problems with my 3520 also. It won't burn the same media that my 3500 will burn. I'm beginning to think that the 3520 is just a bad burner. Hopefully someone will come out with a good firmware and fix it.

  5. I tried eProformance, Verbatim MCC and Traxdata... it's somthin else. Everyone thinks that it's either UDMA problem or a bad media. But It's like this: i record a dvd with divx movies, then i put another dvd or the samo one in the drive and try to copy it. And then the speed is 2-3x. But when I restart computer and copy then, wverything is in order. So it not about the media quality... tried the new 1.08 liggy fw, and it's the same.

  6. Well it might be that your problem is a DMA PIO issue. Go to your sytem properties/hardware/device manager tab and check the properties for your IDE connections. They should be DMA if possible and nothing should be PIO. The most common reason for this is bad reading media where Windows slows down and switches to PIO. I also have seen this problem with a burner and HD on the same IDE connection. Search google for PIO and DMA problems and you will see a ton of advice. Usually you have to switch things around a lot and do some work in the registry.

I used to have a drive setup that would always switch to PIO for no good reason and after reboot it went back. Makes no sense but it might be the problem.

  7. nope, as I said i checked for PIO several times, and it's not that... i did try the regisry stuff but with no success.

  8. I tired NEC 3520 on Secondary MAster and this happens:
(i copied the whole disc (full disc), and just one file (700MB) in win explorer)

    --------------------------------------------------------------
    BEFORE BURNING A DVD:

    Nero cd/dvd speed:

    6.56x at start, 15.90x finish, average 11.95x = 5min - everything ok

    DVD Decrypter:

    6.5x at start, 15x finish = 5min - everything ok

in explorer a file of 710mb copied in 30s - everything ok

    AFTER BURNING DVD:

    Nero cd/dvd speed:

    6.6x start, end 15.99, average 11.99x = 5min - everything ok

    DVD Decrypter:

    3.1x start, end 8x, average 5.5x = 10min - lousy

in explorer a file of 710mb about 2min - lousy
    ----------------------------------------------------------------

when I record a dvd and then put a dvd inside the drive it doesn't spin at full speed, it'snot as loud, as if i restarted computer and copied then. I mean u can hear if it's going tocopy fast or not. WHY? But if i run Nero CD/DVD Speedthan it's allright. So in Nero is ok,but in DVD decrypter and explorer is not...
