I`ve been ripping movies for a while using the following :-
Smart Ripper
DVD 2 AVI
TMPEG
I have been doing 4:3 movies, but for some reason, all my movies are now coming out at 16:9 widescreen. I have just set up a new computer for ripping so am wondering why this is and how do I force 4:3 again?
Cheers for any ideas

From the limited info provided check
setting->video->aspect ratio to make sure you are choosing 4:3.
Also, what is your viewer (WMP, WinDVD, standalone, etc)? -
Thats even more limited
I can find out what you mean. It`s saying 4:3 on every program I use. So that is what is confusing me. Apart from Smartripper which says 16:9. DVD 2 Avi is just click and go, and then tmpeg is 4:3 pal can`t get to the settings at the moment as just doing a rip. I think tmpeg is 625 lines, I know you have the 16:9 settings just not putting it into 4:3 even when I click it.
Anyway Im pissed as my grandad has passed away but still ripping, so any help given is appreciated -
Just a quick point. You dont really want to change the aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3 if the orginal was in 16:9. This will cause the final mpeg to look out of ratio. It is always best to encode to the ratio of the original movie

dont get the source(input) & target(output) aspect ratio confused. output should always be 4:3 unless you own a widescreen tv. select the input aspect ratio based on what dvd2avi tells you. 16:9 input>4:3 output=letterboxed

Most DVD's are in 6:9. That means you should encode you mpeg in 6:9. If you change the output to 4:3 the aspect ratio will be out and the final mpeg wont look right.

shorsfall must be referencing divx or another format as that is completely wrong for vcd/svcd. 16:9 anamorphic movies need to be letterboxed unless you own a widescreen tv
