  1. Which w/b more optimal for capturing VHS to DVD:

    1. JVC HM-DH40000U D-VHS/S-VHS player with built-in TBC hooked up to my Panasonic DMR E20 DVD recorder? .. or

    2. JVC D-VHS/S-VHS to my ATI 7500 AIW card?

I'll lose any 5.1 tracks using the E20, yes? What about with the ATI card? I don't have separate audio card installed in my computer system (yet). Any benefits, disadvantages, etc.. ?? Thanks in advance..

Side note/dumb question: Can camcorder/DV tapes be played in a VCR? Sorry, I don't own a camcorder and am clueless. I remember there used to be what I think were small/mini DV tapes that could be inserted into a VHS housing in order to be played in a VCR... do those still exist?

Your ATI AIW is merely better quality than the bad-IRE mediocre quality Panasonic machines.

For that reason alone, ATI AIW.

  3. lordsmurf,

Firstly, thanks.. I was perusing your site last night and reading up on how to configure my ATI card settings to capture.. it looks a little overwhelming, only b/c I've not even tampered with the video card yet (bought it on clearance some time ago on a whim). Also, space is tight around my pc and getting the JVC set up near my pc is going to be a pita..

My main concern of capturing to pc is losing a/v sync.. Have you experienced a/v sync loss? Do i just use S-Video hook up? And like I said, I don't have a separate, decent audio card.. but looks like will have to invest in one, correct? Capturing (and authoring) is pretty new to me so thanks for help..
