ilo DVR04 and Liteon 5101

Walmart sells the ilo and Sam's sells the Liteon. They appear to be the same unit. The owners manuals are clones of each other. The ilo certainly seems to be a re-bagded Liteon 5101.

I think the Ilo dvdr04 and liteon lvw-5001 are identical, the liteon lvw-5101 is better than the ilo. I'll list some things the 5101 has over the Ilo
1. Insert your own chapters via chapter button on remote
2. Thumbnailed jpeg mode
3. mp3 folder navigation
4. LP recording mode built in
5. Chapter preview (and maybe titleing)
6. hide chapters
7. choose your own thumbnail for menu preview thumbnails.

and maybe some others I cant remember. but if you download the 5001 manual you'll see its identical to the ilo. also the sensory science SR674 is a rebaged 5001 I believe. And the liteon 5007 at sears is a 5001 with a tv guide. So if you can, pick up the Sams club version. I wish I did, they took it off the online site when I was shopping for one.

I would suggest NOT getting the 5101. If you would ever want to load the hacked firmware for LP, MacroVision free, you can not do it with the 5101. It has a different firmware system than any of the other LiteOn/ILO recorders.

As far as the ILO R04 not doing certain things:

1. Insert your own chapters via chapter button on remote
Can be done by pressing the EDIT button while recording
2. Thumbnailed jpeg mode
3. mp3 folder navigation
4. LP recording mode built in
Can be added via hacked firmware along with disabled MacroVision
5. Chapter preview (and maybe titling)
6. hide chapters
7. choose your own thumbnail for menu preview thumbnails.

If you want to be able to hack the recorder, again, stay away from the 5101 and get one of the other LiteOn's or the ILO.

you can't hack the 5101? I guess so, since it does have a different style of menus. You can add chapters yourself on the rest of the ilos and liteons by pressing the edit button? Wow I didnt know that, i'll have to try that.
