i just bought a $22 midi cable to hook my musical keyboard up to my pc. the cable connect to a sound card via a md15 jack. but my pc has onboard sound. so i installed an audio card that has the md15 port. but i cant get this sound card to work. i am thinking there are conflicts between the sound card and the onboard sound? the name of this sound card is Creative SB PCI128 Ensoniq ES1371. i have tried installing several drivers with no luck. can anyone find the proper driver for this card? also, i noticed that there were two cables on the sound card, should i hook one of thsoe up to my mobo or something? please help..

  2. It's not the card that's the problem. You MUST disable the onboard sound in the BIOS setup.
Consult the mainboard manual for instructions.
One cable will go to the CD-rom for audio from CD's, the other could be for anything...need a picture to tell...
    Ensoniq drivers: http://us.creative.com/support/downloads/
On that page, select Sound Blaster in the first column.
Select Others in the second column.
Select Ensoniq AudioPCI in the 3rd column.
Below, select ALL, then select your language, then your OS, and click GO.

    1) disable your onboard sound in BIOS.

    2) that card SHOULD come right up in XP. If the drivers don't install, check http://www.driverguide.com

    3) Check for 'Game Port' in Device Manager under Sound, video and game controllers.

That's your midi port, that means it's detecting it. Have you already disabled onboard audio? You should be able to plug in your keyboard along with the keyboard manufacturer's software / drivers and go.

  9. Check the audio properties in device mangler, to see if it's using the new card for recording and playback.
Check the volume control advanced, to make sure nothing is muted.

but i actually dont think drivers are the problem here. i dont have any yellow !'s in device manager.

i made sure nothing was muted and the device was enabled for playback.

trying this driver is all i know to do though.. argh..

My M/B has 3 pins for onboard sound ..eg.. shorting pins 1 & 2 enables onboard sound and shorting pins 2 & 3 disables onboard sound. It may be only a matter of changing what pins are shorted. Check your manual and see if your M/B has a similar setup. I haven't gone to the trouble of buying a soundcard as the onboard sound is fine for my needs.
