    I have just installed a new sound card and loaded the drivers with the CD .... NO sound.

    Sound Card details:
    C-Media 8738 PCI sound card.
    Fully compatible with your Surround Sound 5.1 channel computer speaker system

    This computer has no software loaded outside of the bare essentials for the net, I use another PC for work.

  2. Check your preferred audio device in control panel, check your speaker setup and connection, check the volume panel with all settings, test with headphones. Also confirm device installation in Device manager.

    Does your mobo have onboard sound? If it does, you may need to disable it in the BIOS for the add on card to work.

  8. Please describe EXACTLY the procedure you were using to test sound card function.

    Playing an AC3 or similar file with no native support built-in to the OS? Or did you try the WAV files built-in to the system, which do not require any additional software for playback?

    Problem solved by installing new OS .... Re installing the OS also loaded the AGP which also was causing problems.
