  1. I hope this is the right place to ask this. If not please tell me and I will move it if possible.

My video capture thing is a cameramate something and has rca inputs and one s-video input and untill now I have only used it for vhs to dvd but have recently wondered if i can capture from my tv and hooked it up with a s-video cable but get no signal . It has worked for vhs transferring.

I have a sharp aqous tv model number LC-26GD4U and the monitor out/ rec out on the back has a s-video plug see picture . Do i have to turn the monitor out/rec out on somehow.

here is a link to the site for this tv http://www.sharpusa.com/products/ModelLanding/0,1058,1386,00.html
    and it says S-Video Output 4-pin DIN x 1

  2. Hit the menu button on the TV remote.
Somewhere it should allow you to set that up, IF it's an option. The TV may send a signal out to the S-Vid and composite outputs permanently (as long as it's turned on), and you could capture whatever channel you're watching on the TV.
Your other option, is to just use the VCR you use to capture, as a tuner, and cap TV that way. Set your capture software to channel 3 (same as the VCR output), and tune in any channel on the VCR, with your capture settings the same as for VHS caps.

My original manual doesnt say anything about be ing able to turn it on and my vhs doesnt have s-video in. I will report back in a second.

  7. i will try that but first I have to get a 25 foot composite cable which are hard to find in the stores ive been to unless I want to buy from a brand that charges $60 for a 4 foot s-video cable when I can get the same quality but 25 foot for $30 with another brand. So I am either going to find one in another store or buy online. I found a 25 foot gold plated composite online for $25 shipping included so thats a ok choice.

and by what I am hearing it will probably allow me to capture analog channels anyways I know I will always need or can use a video cable.

Thanks for trying your best to help me reboot.
