  1. I have divx pro 5.2.1 installed but my avi files,
tells me, it is done with 4.1.2

    I use mpeg4 avi mencoder

  2. When you encode to "mencoder mpeg-4", your divx pro 5.2.1 codec is not used. "mencoder libavc mpeg-4" is used instead. The numbering of the two formats cannot be compared, still this does not mean one is better or newer than the other.

  3. I am encountering a similar situation. I have ffmpegX 9s and Divx 5.2.1 installed. When I attempt to encode an MPEG file (from Eye TV) the choices I am given include MPEG4 [.AVI] (ffmpeg) and MPEG4 [.AVI] (mencoder), Divx 3 [.AVI] (mencoder and ffmpeg), but not Divx 5/Divx AVI.

I am having a difficult time getting a result with image quality that is of comparable image quality with the original MPEG file that is in a format that will play on the Philips DVP642 which does not actually seem to like anything much other than MPEG-2/"DVDs". Philips tech support has pretty much been useless.

    Thanks

  4. You should choose "DivX mencoder" in the Summary tab. In all cases the DivX 5.2.1. codec will not be used, but libavcodec codec will be used. You may also use "XviD mencoder" which has even better image quality.

  5. Thanks Major. I will see if I can get the other one to work with the Philips player...it has been a major pain.

If the Divx 5.2.1 is not used then I guess I really should not have gotten it in the first place.

  6. I sold my Philips dvd player ( same result as you ) and got an Eyehome - best ever investment !!
