I have PowerDVD 6.0 installed which comes with DXdec.ax (DivX 5.2). problem is when i play any DivX encoded file, it defaults to 5.2, it never decodes using my DivX 6.1 Pro codec.

    PLEASE HELP

  4. did you install any codec packs? and is the file in question a divx file, or is it an xvid? if you did the above thing and then your videos started flipping upsidedown, then its something in xvid's configuration.....go to the decoding configuration and there should be an option that says flip video, check it if it isnt checked, and uncheck it if it is....should fix it.

Run GSpot and figure out what is rendering your files. Also get Analogx's DXMAN to see what other DIVX codecs you may be using (XVID, FFDShow, etc. will also decode DIVX if you let them)

dshow works on a priority system. What I suggested disabled the cyberlink decoder, doesn't mean that DivX 6.1's decoder will be used, just that DXdec.ax definatly won't.

Problem with WMP is that it doesn't give you access to filters, but as suggested rendering in GSpot should work, since WMP should be using the same decoder.

Flipping is generally due to bad YV12 to RGB colourspace conversions though and XviD's decoder outputs YUY2 by default. Does look like a HDTV re-encode though which would suggest that it is XviD and not DivX. Don't have DivX installed, but it used to require that generic MPEG-4 support to be enabled to decode XviD.

one thing i'm 100% certain, is that i don't have xvid installed or any codec packs.
once i get home, i will try Gspot, does Gspot only tell me what codec i need? sorry never used Gspot.

Like I said, the graph should be basically the same in GSpot as WMP, so what GSpot would tell you is what decoder WMP is using.

Why is it so important to decode XviD via DivX 6.1 anyway? Not including pp all spec compliant decoders should have 100% identical output. libavcodec (via ffdshow) is also another option. Requires less resources than XviD/DivX.

  10. If you are still having problem with PowerDVD displaying .divx file upside down, Divx player is probably corrupted and you need to download a new copy of DivX Player (not PowerDVD) from http://www.divx.com/divx/windows/ and install it. I did, and it works, PowerDVD display upside down movie no more.
