Hey 'Zook. Congratulations on the job - I know you have been waiting far too long for this. Funny how you are ending up working with something a little bit to do with VideoHelp, huh?
-
It's about time, you slacker! Don't screw it up!
JK dude, congrats and good luck.
In a couple of weeks the newness will wear off and it will be just another job and after that you will start bitching and moaning about it just like everyone else.It is the natural order of things.

Congrats Bazooka.
Glad to hear you got it. Now we both have jobs.
Lets see who can stay employeed the longest.
BTW, my title is Certified Network Engineer. What does that mean? Hell if I know. It certianly doesn't mean I just do network engineering, cause I went to someone biz to install a hard drive in a computer the other dayBasically, I think it mean nothing
They send me to businesses to install their whole network to homes to remove viruses from ppls computers.
Day on the job last week.
VP of company - Stilt, go out and fix this ladies internet connection.
Stilt - what's up with it?
VP - She spent 2 hours on the phone with her ISP and they say she has a bad NIC or an OS problem.
Stilt - no problem
Stilt - Hello, I'm from blank ity blank. You're having internet problems?
Lady - yeah, I was on the phone 5 times and no one can get it working. Here's the computer
Stilt - let me take a look, Dell 4400. NIC light isn't on. Follow cat5 to D-link router. No lights are on the D-link. Plug in power to D-link. Internet is up and running
Lady - You mean it was just unplugged?
Stilt - Yes
Lady - So I have you for an hour right? $65 an hour, right?
Stilt - Yes ma'am
Lady - How about checking over the whole computer to make sure everything is OK
Stilt - No problem, I waste the next 50 minutes doing nothing but looking over her computer. Everything was up to date and it didn't need anything done to it. No viruses, no spyware, Defrag was fine, settings all fine...clean system
VP - so how did it go at that lady's house yesterday?
Stilt - I plugged the power into her D-link router.
VP - it was just unplugged from the power supply and that was it?
Stilt - Yep.
VP - I bet she was pissed off <VP laughin>
Stilt - Actually, she took it pretty well. I spent the next 50 mins going through a perfectly kept system to find something that needed fixing. -
Would this lady have ended up paying you for the whole hour whether you took ten minutes or the full hour?
It was good of you to give her PC a health check, anyway. A lot of people sure appreciate it when an expert looks over their machine and gives it a clean bill of health. -
way to go bazooka!!!!!! life can suck without a job. i almost lost mine this past week and am grateful to have it. i wish you well!!!

$250 US for me to set foot on some jobs is what the company charges. That can sometimes include travel. If the customer says that it is an emergency, the price can go up.
I am a carpenter by trade. Liability is what provokes such high prices. If anything comes to the customers attention that may even remotely cause them to be liable to one of their customers by causing an injury or property damage they call to have it remidied. As soon as I set foot on the job or my office agrees to fix it, it becomes our liability and they are more than happy to be out from under it.
30 seconds to fix a loose screw: $250
30 seconds to trim off a loose carpet thread $250
5 minutes to resecure a hand rail $250
You would be suprised at the stuff I see and do.
Anyhow before I got off on a tangent. What I was going to say is any extras or above and beyond depends on the client and what they may seem to expect. Some only want the one issue at hand resolved and some say well as long as you are here. The little extras go a long way towards repeat business but you have to be careful not to work yourself out of the next call also. Oh and don't forget the service with a smile! It is a good thing that some clients can't read my mind.IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT? -
