  1. hi all, just a quick one. trying to add an srt to xvid avi outputting as same avi settings xvid w/ same mp3 (48000Hz vbr 2 channels). i can manually set the xvid settings to the same as the original avi (finding them out w/ gspot) but don't seem to have the same option with the mp3 settings. Does anyone know of a way in TMPGEnc (i'm a noob with this guy) to use original audio & video settings?
    Cheers

You are using TMPGEnc to encode with XviD? I wouldn't recommend that. I also wouldn't recommend re-encoding the audio as there is no need.

  3. if i do use TMPGEnc, how can i avoid re-encoding the audio, given that the prog doesn't allow me to set output audio settings same as input (hence hopefully no re-encode)?
Also, given that you don't recommend it, what would you recommend for xvid+srt>xvid with subs added?
    Cheers for your help druid.

    Demux audio.
Create AVISynth script to frameserve video with subs.
Encode video (2 passes) with AVS2AVI or VirtualDub(Mod).
Mux new video with old audio using AVIMuxGUI or VirtualDubMod.

If you wanted less steps, re-encode video whilst muxing with original audio and adding subs using just VirtualDubMod. Or use the DSynth AVISynth mod to frameserve video with subs, plus directstream old audio.
