  1. Is there a way to copy tv programs recored on a Motorola DVR 6208 to a computer ?

The computer does have an ATi TV wonder so I could re-capture the show on the computer while playing it on the DVR. However I was thinking of an easier way.

    Thanks

I don't have the box but S-Video and audio to the ATI TV wonder should work fine.

Can you tell me if the "1394(DTV)" outputs work?
What about the USB and ethernet ports, what do they do?

  4. I can use the 1394 port to capture a MPEG2 Transport Stream File (*.TS) This file can then be converted to an MPG to be processed by video software.

Do you really use the DVR? I have not used it but I presented my best guess in https://www.videohelp.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=1145454#1145454.

  6. Typicaly I capture first to the DVR in the cable box, then play it back to feed the stream to my computer.

Cable boxes with built-in DVR's from comcast (Motorolla 6208) have a working firewire feed. There was actually a regulation by the FCC saying the cable companines can not block the port.

On the other hand, they also have to pass copy protection flags in the stream at the request of the station/producer, etc.

Right now I am able to capture most of the HD-Digital content out there. Moive Channels are generally blocked, but if you wanted to capture a HD recording of a typical network broadcast show, or sporting event you shouldn't have a problem through the 1394 ports.

    That is good to know.

I also read in the "non-DVR" Motorola 6200 manual that it has the IEEE-1394 port and also an external SATA drive recording capability. Anyone have experience with that box?

  8. Am I understanding this thread correctly? The 6208 box has working firewire ports!? So if my TV has firewire ports I can connect my cable box via firewire?

I wish the box had the SATA connector- I'd like to have more HD space

My understanding is the Motorola 62xx boxes output the MPeg2 transport stream TS (as broadcast on DTV) not the 480i DV format that you get from a MiniDV camcorder.

Tools for capturing and processing SDTV and HDTV TS streams are just beginning to be discussed here. I for one am all ears.

  10. Yes the 6208 has working firewire ports. When you record the stream it come in what ever the native format of the signal is. A typical 1080i broadcast will be 1920x1080 @ 60fps. The feed also contains the native sound as well (typicaly DD5.1)

  11. I am able to capture everything from my 6208 to PC. HBO, MAX, Showtime included. I am trying to figure out how to work with the video files in Premiere Elements. WHen I drag the file to the timeline I lose audio. I have converted the files using HDTVtoMPEG, build 51, and still have no luck. Anyone know how to achieve this?

  12. I am not familiar with the software but, maybe Premiere Elements has problems working with the DD5.1 sound streams. You may want to try capturing somthing that is not in DD5.1 and see if the sound is there.
