  1. I recently installed a NEC DVD writer and since then my pre existing Hitachi DVD ROM will only play an Audio CD and refuses to recognise DVD.
I have tried swopping the jumper settings around to no avail. Device manager says both drives are working fine.
    Any suggestions?

  2. Put the ROM on a different IDE channel or get a different brand ROM. My LG ROM won't work in DMA when it's on the same channel as my Plextor burner. BTW, I think LG and Hitachi drives might share some components, since those two companies have joined forces in the optical drive market.

  3. Thank you nic2k4. Sadly do not have a spare IDE channel so it looks like a new DVD-ROM might be required unless anyone else has any an alternative solution.

Which DVD-ROM might succesfully run alongside the NEC ND 3500-AG DVD Writer on the same channel?

  4. I had the same problem. After doing all this authoring, burning, etc....My dvd rom wouldnt recognize dvds.
I did a google on my dvd rom ,.. and found out that one of microsofts updates was causing the problem. I then found out that I had to update the firmware/software for the dvd rom.
Type in the name of your dvd rom in Google and then type the symptoms or "trouble shoot".

  5. Have you tried with one DVD as a slave on the primary channel? Move whatever is slave there now, to the secondary channel.
