  1. Educate me, in simple terms, if we are taking our vhs treasures and archiving them on dvd, would archiving them to blu ray garner any better quality?

And..........., transferring exisiting dvd to blu ray, similiar question.

Or is the same old thing tru-its the quality of the capture/restoration that controls it.

    Thanks

    Hello,

Yeah I don't think upcoding it higher than dvd will make any dramatic improvements. Your still stuck with an analog source.

As far as dvd upcoding?????? Why bother??? HD or BLU RAY will be BACKWARD COMPATIBLE so you won't have to convert anything at all in the dvd world

Blue ray is only media with greater density thus allowing it to hold more data. Current DVD's hold 4.7 GB SL where Blue ray will hold 25 GB SL of data. Blue Ray and HD DVD are designed to hold the HD Movies so you can watch them on your HDTV ( Plasma, LCD ) where you only are getting standard dif now.

I don't know how accurate this is but it say's here,

Blu-ray offers up to 50Gb of capacity while HD DVD will not go beyond 30Gb.

the 50GB refers to DL media I stated SL which is only 25 GB for Blue Ray

Blue Ray offers 25 GB per layer and they are working on up to 4 layers for a total of 100 GB
