  1. before I start explaining my problem I want to say that I searched the whole forum and find number of topics on this issue but none of them helped me, so here i am:

I downloaded a subtitle in RAR format and when I opened it up it contained a IDX and SUB file, but none of them worked with the movie.
In IDX file: there was only numbers of when should the line appear, but no texts.
In SUB file: the was nothing but a bunch of encoded texts.

I have tried playing it with ViPlay, Windows Media Player 9 and Winamp 5.3
I also have VobSub and FFDshow installed.

here's a exact table of files I downloaded, you can download the IDX and SUB file by clicking them:

    thank you guys in advanced

You put the subs in a sub folder? The subs need to be in the same folder and have the same filename (minus extensions) as the avi, then VOBSub or ffdshow (if vobsubs are enabled and it is configured to load in the graph) should kick in.

  3. i put them in the same folder but still no luck

as i said before when i open the IDX file there is only times of when should the lines appear but there is no subtitle. and when I open SUB file there is nothing to read. if it's no problem for you plz download the SUB and IDX and see what can we do with them.

  4. ok... i got it to work with Classic Media Player.
now is there anyway to convert those subtitles to a normal text subtitle, say SRT or plain SUB for example?

The IDX is an index and the sub contains the original bitmaps from the DVD.

    Try SubRip to convert.

Media Player Classic links against the same libs for subtitles as VSFilter/Directvobsub by the way.

Works fine here (best I can remember).

You weren't trying to load it as a textsub were you?
File-->Open VOB's-->open IFO and then open the idx. You can then start the OCR process.

  8. Another workaround is if you have VobSub instaled. In the instalation folder there is small utility Subresynch. It can read idx/sub and you can use it to resave in .srt format.
