    good day people!!
    At present i have a Philips DVP 642 with the 1109 firmware that way already on the machine when i purchased it from Wal-mart about a month ago. but i have been doing so reading on the forums about 531 firmware as will. Which is the better firmware to use?

    About the only difference between the 0531 and the 1109 is that the 1109 has macrovision enabled - the 0531 doesn't. That means that you won't be able to videotape from the DVD player with macrovision of the 1109.

    The 1109 opens the tray door by pushing down the stop button on remote for 1 second as opposed to 2 seconds on the 0531.

    They both have bad subtitle support and therefore there exist a couple of modified firmwares out there that have support for subtitles.

    Also, the latest official firmware, 0112, has introduced readable subtitle support.
