  1. Hi there

I had a look around but couldn't see anything directly relating to my problem. I have gotten a few videos off a mate, and often wirelessly transfer them to my TV so I can watch em on the couch. The problem is that often the videos are extremely quiet, where on the maximum TV volume setting I barely make out the speech in the movies.

On the PC if I have my volume up all the way (and I am sitting at the desk) I can hear it OK, just, but still the audio level is nothing like other videos I have (divx, normal AVI etc).

So far the affected videos appear to be XViD ones only. I have an XViD Codec installed, and the video plays fine. I just used Gspot on them, and I noticed that both are AC3 audio, and I have "4 compatible codecs installed".

has anyone heard of this problem, or know how to fix it? do I need an updated (fixed?) version of the Xvid codec or is an AC3 thing?

    Thanks!!

  2. how to increase AC3 volume

    Windows
    Control Panel
    AC3

1 Open AC3 filter, at bottom uncheck "Normalize" box and raise the volume slider to max.
uncheck 3 "BSI lock" boxes and raise sliders to max.

2 Select "Mixer" tab at top, uncheck ALL boxes.

3 Select "Equalizer" tab at top. check mark "Equalizer on" box and slide all volume slides to the max.

4 Select "System" tab at top
uncheck "auto load movie configuration files"
    uncheck "Use WAVEFORMATEXTENSIBLE"
check mark "Wave out" button (it's below "Direct Sound")

5 Click "OK" at bottom to save these new settings

  3. Ahhh all fixed. Nice and loud now.

Thanks for that. Will have to write that procedure to memory!!!

If the video has AC3 sound but is being played on a computer does that mean it is stereo or more than stereo (5 speakers etc)? If I am playing through 2 speakers should it still come out ok? It sounds a bit strange, as if it over-amplified. Especially noticable when in loud parts of the film. I have messed around with the settings but it doesnt appear to make a difference yet..

  4. im not a fan of ac3 audio
iv never tried teh method of altering the soundlevels in the settings
when i turn my speakers up i get background hiss and distortion
iv never tried it myself but changing the audio level as above should correct sound levels

    personally i

load the file / files into nandub using append avi segment if there is more than one
    file -> save wav ->
    file name ac3.ac3
    file type all files

besweet to convert audio to mp3 this will take approx 3 minutes for every 20 minutes of video depends on speed of pc
then mp3 gain to normalise sound level

then i go back to nandub window,
    video -> direct stream copy
audio -> vbr mp3 and select the mp3 file
file -> save as avi (give it a filename)

now you have a smaller avi with the correct volume audio

  5. The solution is way easier.

    Uninstall ac3, install ffdshow.
Then in the ffdshow audio decoder under volume check normalize. That's it.
