  1. Hello there, can anyone help me?

I'm new to burning DVD's and was recommended to use DVDShrink. So i downloaded the latest version and got going. I backed up one of my old DVD's and eveything seemed ok till I went to watch it. The quality was perfect but every 10 seconds the picture jumped and froze. I'm only working with a below par machine running 128mb of RAM. Could this be my problem? I'm very keen to know why my DVD's don't come out perfect so any input will be appericiated.

    Thanks for reading

  2. Probably media. What media ID do your discs have & what model writer do you have?

  4. ermm, i used stor-media discs (i've never heard of them either)..
got some Maxell discs, ill try them, see if they're the problem.
I'm using a Sony DVD burner, cost a bit of money so I don't think it's that.

Also thanx for such quick reply.

  5. Skip and froze every 10 seconds? If it is consistently doing that from the start of the disc, it's may be more related to a picky player rather than the media - this is assuming you mean you're playing back on a standalone player. Both of my main DVD Players have exhibited this with on rare occasions with good media. One player would skip and freeze about every ten seconds because the disc had too high of a bitrate for the player to handle. The other player does the same thing with several pressed store bought discs of DVD sets that I have.

  6. My standalone DVD player plays other copies from friends perfectly. I don't think it's my player...

If you want more help you are going to need to let us know what you have tried. Your symptoms which we have seen and heard of many times can be direclty related to the following in any order. Media you are using, your Set top DVD player model that you are attempting to play your burnt DVD in and finally the DVD Writer's ability to perform the correct write strategy on the media you are using. This is where a firmware update for your writer may solve your problem as well. You can do this, first try several brands of media, try at least 3 and see if burning the same movie gives you the same result in the DVD player you are attempting to watch the DVD in. If you get the same result with all 3 media. Then it could be your DVD player. Try your 3 burnt DVDs in at least 3 other players to see if they yield the same problems yours did. Finally you may need to check your computer setup. Make sure you update to the latest firmware for your DVD Writer and when writing to the DVD make sure you shut down all non-essential services and programs. Especially any messenger programs. Someone signing in and trying to contact you while your are cooking a disk can cause a hic-up or two. Good luck!

    Most likely that generic media.

Use good media it actually costs less in the end because it actually works.

I noticed you only have 128 MB of RAM.

Maybe DVD Shrink could require more but I doubt this is the problem.

It probably wouldn't run at all or at least it would finsh making the ISO's if this was the problem.

    It's the cheap media.

Read some thread in the Media section or read some user reports on the media.
    snappy phrase

    I don't know what you're talking about.

If you want to copy and burn movies, your memory and hard drive are seriously below par. Consider at LEAST an 80 gig hard drive, and 256 meg ram as a bare minimum, preferably 512 meg or higher.

I've recently started backing up movies with Dvd-decrypter and Shrink. I have 512 megabyte memory and 30 gig hard drive on a laptop. I bought an external Dvd rewriter by Emprex and I picked up Imation Dvd-r 8x discs (Fuji manufactured) to practise with. I've had no probs so far. My movie backups work perfectly with my JVC standalone player but jumps and skips on an LG player which is VERY fussy with discs. Hope that helps.
    Why is it doing that?
