    I have Go-video 6640 stand - alone DVD recorder.
Great recording video quality using DominoFX, Only one problem:

After I record a movie from the TV on a DVD+RW then I pop it into my PC to make some DVD copies or just to copy the DVDcontent to my HD.

I am getting "cannot red from the media, file is corrupted"
This occurs on the very last VOB file on every disk - whether itsVTC_01_04.VOB or VTC_01_05.VOB
Disk plays good on every DVD player, but it doesn’t want read, open or copy.
All other DVD files copy successfully but the last one.

Same problem with DVD+R after finalizing on the Go-video recorder.

I was thinking : isn’t it anything that GO-video recorder does to the disk ( like copy protection)?
I tried with duferent brands DVD+RW, DVD+R disks

Tried to call Go-Video customer service, but the line is busy.

    Anybody experiencing the same problem?

  2. Burn a small disc, like half the capacity of a full disc, and see if the problem still exists. It may sound like a stretch, but it sounds as though it could be bad burns at the very edge of the discs, where errors often occur. Burn a small disc and see if it 'cures' the problem.

Yes, I tried that too. I recorded 1 min of video only to a blank DVD+RW from TV and got the same error.
Although if I use DVD editing software to import DVD and convert it into MPEG , then to burn DVD from there– it works, but it takes 7-8 hours of encoding.. who needs that!
So I still do not know what the deal is.

    Will keep calling go-video ….

Mmm, a friend of mine talked about his DVD-recorder which has a feature called "Copy-Protection". I wonder if it's something like this?

Maybe those last VOB files are some form of DUMMY files??
Can you VIEW the whole movie complete on your PC?

    Really intresting!

Yes, I can play complete movie on the PC
I did some tricks – deleting the last VOB and creating a blank VOB and name it as the deleted one, also deleting the last VOB and coping and renaming the first VOB as the deleted..
Then shows some inconsistency errors but creates a DVD disk, but it plays as VCD on my dvd players – no MENU…..

    Very strange.

I would try to import the VOB's with another program and reauthor the dvd.
You could try to do that with tmpgdvd author for example.

As i said - it works, but it takes 6-8 hours encoding per disk...
DVD Shrink re authoring doesn’t work - returns errors on these DVDs

I read on another forum about IfoEdit software.. So I will try to delete all IFO files, then use the readable VOBs only and create new IFOs with the program..

In this case if the last VOB is a DUMMY file, the new IFOs will sync the good VOBs.

    Will post un update tomorrow.

MMM, I don;t understand why it needs encoding again? If the needed VOB's are readable then they only have to imported. No encoding should be needed.

    Update.

Got in touch with GoVideo customer service… they claimed that there is not a file inscription/microvision added by the recorder.
And blamed it on incompatibility of the recorder drive and the PC DVD drive.
I still think that my recorder is screwed up.
I’ll buy onother exact same brand new unit and check if it does the same thing..
    Will post the result.

By the way – the movies do not play on my PC, I was wrong in my previous post.
They play only on DVD players or DVD recorders.

    Update:

Tried on HP laptop – reads and copies fine.
Tried on SONY – Laptop – 17” wide screen ($3000) – cannot read or copy
Tried on DELL – Laptop - cannot read or copy

So it is really drive compatibility problem….

I took the DVD to work and tried on many WinXP PCs
Non of them could read the or copy the last file.

Then I tried with at list 4 Win2000 PCs .
    All of them read/copy fine.
So the problem was the WinXP OS not the drive

This was the problem on my PC (and all Win XP OS).

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;321640

I found some winXP Service packs :
Windows XP SP1 Update: Watch TV Shows Recorded by Media Center PCs on Other Windows XP PCs

    http://windows.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?site=http://www.microsoft.com/download...displaylang=en

Will try tonight, if it doesn’t work, I’ll roll back my home PC to Win 2000.

Non of the SPs worked, but I found a program called CDRoller which creates a mirror image of any DVD to your HD and from there you can rip, copy , paste and s.f.
