  1. ok so my problem is that when i tried to play a vcd or dvd that i've made(with my dvd player) the sides of the picture seem to be cut off. what i mean is that if the movie have subtitle it would be cut off the screen. But if i play it on my pc i can see everything. I tried to resize the movie when i encode it but it doesn't always give me the result that i want (i.e. the sub becomes distorted or the pic is distortrd). am i doing something wrong? is there some kind of setting that i need to change? Thanks in advance for any help. : ]

    PS: I use TMPEnc

It sounds like you have a widescreen (16:9) video that you are trying to burn as a normal size (4:3) dvd/vcd. When you play the video file in whatever program you use to watch videos on the pc does it look like a widescreen movie? (should be black borders along the top and bottom), If so when encoding and burning make sure you are burning as widescreen format (16:9) or else the video will be cut off (as far as I know) Even though you may want fullscreen, it will more then likely will cut off either side of the video if you trying encoding as fullscreen. If this is not the case maybe someone else can help, considering I'm still newish to dvd authoring myself.

Sounds more like overscan (look it up in the glossary). Tmpgenc can resize it to fit (maintain aspect ratio I believe is the option you are looking for) but you can do it from the wizard. If you search for overscan you will find a more detailed solution. I would use Virtualdubmod instead for this then frameserver to CCE. You could do the same and frameserve to tmpgenc. Just use the built-in resize filter.

  4. You problem seems to be related to aspect ratio. When you load your file in TMPGEnc to encode what is the "Source aspect ratio" setting under the Advance tab ? Dont change this setting. Under the Video tab select the correct aspect ratio and re-encode your file to VCD/SVCD/DVD compliant mpeg by choosing the correct template.

Overscan for sure. Add borders (how much depends on your telly, but on my setup 16 px top/bottom 8 px left/right is fine) and resize accordingly. As gunslinger says, VirtualDub (or AviSynth) is what to use, then frameserve to encoder. Had the subs been correctly positioned to begin with, this wouldn't be a problem.
