High Quality 8X DVD-R Silver Shiny Blank Media in Cake Box (TYG02), 25, 50, 100, 200, 500 Pack
Notice how it always says "HIGH QUALITY" instead of "TAIYO YUDEN" ?
And it's categorized here:
Home > Media > DVD R Media > Taiyo Yuden DVD-R Media > Taiyo Yuden 8X DVD-R Media
Recently, meritline told somebody I came across that "this TY media is not made in Japan" point blank, and then said some BS like "but it's just as good".
Thank you for your mails.
These discs are made according to the standard of Taiyo-Yuden ,but not made in Japan .
Any question, just feel free to contact us .
Best Wishes,
Ivy

Here I thought meritline was on the up-and-up. I've made purchases from them in the past. This media, and any thing else like it should be catagorized as follows:
Home > Media > DVD R Media > Faked Media Codes
Usually long gone and forgotten -

it's Meritline, hasn't this been discussed enough before, you may order 16x DVD-R media and get 8-track tapes from them.
THEY ARE EVIL! -
I've gotten these exact same discs from Shop4Tech as "Sonic 8X". They don't advertise the media code though. The top surface is smooth but not a mirror finish, I'd say more of a satin. No stacking ring, and no numbers or markings whatsoever, definitely fake. They've worked OK but not great, out of 40 burned so far I've had one pixelate on the standalone, and I've seen another with a dye defect at the very edge but played OK. No coasters yet.
http://www.shop4tech.com/user.htm?go=view_item&id=3335&cata=3&s_cata=33_r158 $25/100 now, they were $23 when I bought them. -

this does not surprise me. i bought from meritline several times, the last time being more then a year ago. at least half the time they messed up my order. they would charge my credit card when they didn't have items in stock, then when they did ship them many weeks later, half the time I got the wrong product. the last time was the last straw. I ordered 200 of their 8x HQ disks and got some 2x disks! I couldn't get anyone on the phone who understood english and went through hell to get a refund. Had to dispute the charge with my credit card company. needless to say I never bought from them again, and after reading this i'm surely glad of that.
yes, whatever! -
The last time I ordered from Meritline, I ordered TY and got Memorex, which turned out to be a big hassle to get the order right. I ordered ink for my Epson R200 about six months ago, which turned out to be fine. I reordered ink three weeks ago which turned out to be shit
I no longer order anything from Meritline...
<-----shame on you, Meritline-----> -
Stay far far away from Meritline and you will be fine. I had bought from them numerous times since 2001 with few problems, but starting around 2003 the problems got worse and worse. I think they were the first ones selling discs with faked media codes, TDK faked codes was their first.
Just search on this forum going back a couple of years and you will see several long threads about it. It took me over 4 months to finally get my money back from the TDK scam, and I had to resort to charging back the DVD's on my credit card. Beliebe it or not after it became widespread knowledge they were selling the TDK fakes, they stopped selling advertising them as TDK and sold them as generic. These discs had failure rates approaching 100%, and its unbelievable they continued to sell them under other names.
Rather than just trash the fake TDK discs, they continued to sell them under several names until they got rid of them all. I was amazed they weren't put out of business for that scam as I am sure there were tons of chargebacks on that scam alone.
Last time I dealt with them was about a year ago on a deal that seemd too good to be true. My initial shipment was only for half of what I ordered, after repeated calls to people in their customer service that couldn't speak English properly, the other half of the shipment came. Unfortunately the second shipment was for the wrong merchandise, worse still they again charged my credit card the full amount after having charged it the full amount for the first half shipment.
I can't tell you of tyhe hassle it took to clear that up, and in the end I had to shut down that particular credit card as 2 more charges appeared from them that I never ordered.
Whats even more amazing to me is that this is not new news or behavior for them. All anyone has to do is go back in this forum for the last few years and read the countless scams and horror stories. But yet people still buy from them, and then come in here and while like its all news to them. -

Is there any other way to tell if the ones Meritline is sending out are fake?
I ordered a 100 pack of Taiyo Yuden (DVD-R47VAL600SK) 4X DVD-R Media 4.7GB Silver Lacquer Blank DVDR Discs with the media code TYG01.
Instead I received 8X discs with the media code TYG02 but the invoice still says 100 Pack Taiyo Yuden 4X DVD-R Media, the 4X had been crossed out and 8X had been written in. Since the discs do not have a name on them how can I tell if these aren't just 8X Taiyo Yuden discs and not fakes?
On www.nomorecoasters.com they do give the media codes TYG01 & TYG02 for Taiyo Yuden discs.
The fake "High Quality" discs say their is no stacking ring but the ones I received have a stacking ring.
The discs have a code on them on the recording side around the middle ring: C5121114211.
On the top around the middle ring it says DVD-R 8X 305 or 302.
I already have them sending me a call tag to send them back and they are going to refund my money but if the discs are good I would rather keep them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks. -
DVD-R47VAL600SK is being sold at many more stores than Meritline. Enough users have purchased them and confirmed they are genuine TY media. And yes, it is possible to receive the 8x TYG02 code instead of the 4x TYG01; this has also been experienced by others.

I have used DVD-R47VAL600SK extensively and found they are very good, but the last time I ordered these, they came from Meritline. The package was labelled 102-315-100 instead of DVD-R47VAL600SK. They identify as TYG01 however.

BTW, I have used Burnmaster +R DVDs and they are genuine TY as are the -R.Still a few bugs in the system... -
I've been ordering from supermediastore and received
DVD-R47VAL600SK, Tape wrapped,600 per box and state "Made in Japan" on the carton. Individual 100 pack has a label "Value Disk". They really at TY's quality, my tower loves them very much even though I burned the at 4x.
