Hey guys/gals, new to the forum but have been following this site for a long time. Very useful. Anyways, I want to purchase a video converter that converts mt2s/ts files to several formats and retains the quality so I can then edit in Sony Vegas. Well, I came across Aiseesoft DVD converter suite and downloaded the trial. I am very happy with the performance, quality and is extremely fast (takes advantage of dual cores).

However, I am not sure this a legit company? I see many paid converters that are very similar and the websites look very similar which makes me think it's all run by one company. Any suggestions? I am willing to pay for a software but want it to be as efficient as this one. I like Handbrake but this one is much faster and is also a nice dvd ripper. Thanks

    Suggested? No.
Multi names for Chinese software. Most of them just add GUI to already-free tools. Software for suckers.
Look at what's been said here: http://stream-recorder.com/forum/www-aiseesoft-com-review-aisee-soft-low-t3728.html?

They are known spammers, all from China IP addresses.

These terms would all be good to describe them:
scam, spam, sucks, garbage, rubbish, doesn't work, problems, errors, no refunds, crap

M2TS into Vegas has been talked about here before.
I don't use Vegas (I use Premiere and FCP), so I don't recall offhand.
    Search the forum for it.

Again i'm not a Vegas user i work with the Adobe Suite, but pre AE10 when i had to convert all my footage before AE would handle it properly i was converting to Quicktime PNG codec, which is lossless, and can be done for free. (AME itself will do it fine) I'm pretty sure that Vegas could handle these files as well.

Don't look to spend money on converting software, there probably isnt any need for you. If there's anywhere you may want to spend you money then it'd be on an intermediate codec such as Neoscene.

We ban Aiseesoft spammers fairly regularly. Not recommended.

You can also look at Avid's DNxHD intermediate codec, which is downloadable for free. You may have to use Mpeg-Streamclip to do the conversion.

You can use FFMpeg to transcode to DNxHD. FFMpeg is of course a command line program but WinFF which uses FFMpeg for transcoding is essentially drag and drop. The DNxHD presets are not in WinFF on installation but they are easy to add, either by importing a filter presets file (I have one if anyone wants it) or by doing the following (this is for 185MB/s DNxHD but you can change the settings for other rates):

    1. Click on Edit-Presets then choose Quicktime from the presets list.
    2. Enter DNxHD185 into the Preset Name box.
    3. Enter DNxHD HQ 185MB/s transcode for MTS into the Preset Label box.
    4. Enter -s 1920x1080 -r 25 -b 185000k -threads 2 -vcodec dnxhd -acodec copy into the Preset Command Line box.
    5. Enter mov into the Output File Extension box (probably already there).
    6. Enter Quicktime into the Category box (probably already there).
    7. Click on Add/Update then Save and you are ready to transcode.

To transcode drag and drop the files to be transcoded into the WinFF file window. Choose Convert To as Quicktime and Device Preset to DNxHD and click convert.
