  1. i am trying to back up this dvd9 to a dvd5. i have ripped all the vob's, bup's and ifo's to my HD and tried using dvdshrink. just after encoding starts i get a error message. could this have to do with copy protection? i tried just doing it straight from the dvd and got the same error. is there another way to do this?

now dvdshrink just shuts down, no message at all.

You wouldn't happen to be my mother would you? My mother asks the same type of questions but never includes little details like:

    What is your error message?

More info on the "Program Exception" error is viewable in your system log files.
Use "Event Viewer" to see your log files.
Once you have got the info from the log files, you can "Google" the exact exception to find out more info.

You must rip the entire movie with decryptor, then open VIDEO_TS file containing ripped files with shrink. Shrink will not open movie-only rips. Try to get most recent versions of both.

If you feel obliged to use DVDDecrypter at all at this stage, the general procedure is to rip to ISO with DVDDecrypter, then open the ISO in shrink. However, 99.9% of the time, there's no need for DVDDecrypter at all (except for writing the shrunken ISO to disk again).
