Been lurking here quite a bit, first post, complete newbie.

My question-is it possible to convert a 1-2sec. MOV file to a still pic in jpeg format in order to print a picture? I've looked through the convert guides, didn't see it there, checked out pages of newbie threads, newbie articles, how-tos...Is this even possible??

I was able to capture a still using advice in another thread about PowerDVD, but the still is real grainy, pixelated(?) Could this be due to my camcorder's limitations(SonyTRV22),is this the best I'll get from this camcorder or is there some better way to do this?

    Thank you.

BTW, this site has been a real help to me so far. Thanks!

Alright you experts will be happy to know that I didn't just sit on my butt waiting for an answer but kept on searching and here's what I found:

"In the case of this camcorder, the still images are only 640X480 resolution, ok for emailing or web site images, but are nowhere near the quality you’ll get from most entry level digital cameras. Similarly, the on-camera encoding to mpg files stored on the memory stick is not of high enough quality for full screen playback on your computer, though it would be suitable for emailing a short clip."

So that pretty much answers my question, the camcorder is the reason the still images are bad, not anything I was trying to use to extract a still from the mov file.

Note that if you actually wanted to convert a Movie to JPEG's,
PREMIERE would do this (Output BMP or TIF from Timeline- then batch convert to JPG)

For individual stills I guess you found out what we did! All VIDEO is 72dpi!

hi def outght to be a little better for this

Thanks for the info on Premiere.

"hi def ought to be a little better for this"

Yea, that's what I was thinking also, which is why I was stumped on the picture quality, couldn't imagine it was my camcorder capabilities. Oh well, learn something new everyday right?
