Anyone has this model, most peoples reviews are mixed, I was wondering, does it play svcds or xvcd/xsvcd?

  2. I have it but dont have svcd's or xvcds to play though it claims to play them. Playback on vcd's is really good. It will handle black with ease. Only drawbacks i notice is that it only dispays 8 characters for cd text, it has no zom feature, and on some vcds in pal format itll full screen then even when in 4:3 but it doesnt distort the quality any.. though sometimes its a little of a nusaince if you like letterbox.. most cases itll keep it the size though.

  3. I just got a Pioneer 440. Playback is not as flexible as on my 525. It seems to play 480x480 SVCD clips but won't play 352x480 clips.

I will do more testing later this week to test what it can handle.

  4. I just burned one short clip at 352x480 mpeg2 onto CDRW and this time it worked flawlessly. This is a relief because full SVCD resolution limits video minutes on cdr and VCD resolution is too blurry.

However, I don't know why it wouldn't play my old 352x480 clips. Perhaps the 440 can't read multiple clips at different resolutions on 1 cdr? I will do more testing later this week.

  5. Okay. I just burned multiple clips on 1 cdr. All clips are 352x480 MPEG 2 29.97. They work beautifully.

So, the 440 will play multiple clips on 1 cdr.

However, it maybe can't accept 352x480 and 480x480 clips on the same disc because I do not know why it will not play my old cdr with 480x480 and 352x480 clips. My old cdr plays fine on a Pioneer 525.

I'll do more testing next week to further explore the resolution capabilities of the 440.
