Failed to initialize AviSynth in ffdshow

Alot of people suggest using ffdshow so I finally decided to download it and try it but the problem is I can't even get the program to start. I click on the makeavis.exe (only exe in the install directory) and it starts an msdos box which closes quickly then I get this "failed to initialize avisynth" error. I've downloaded the program, Avisynth but it still will not start. Any help is greatly appreciated.

makeavis.exe is for creating fake avi files from AVISynth scripts for apps that don't support avs files, but do avi's.

ffdshow is not an application, it's a DirectShow filter/codec. There's nothing to run.

Well don't I feel dumb then. lol Thanks for the response guess I'll see if I can use the codecs with Vdubmod see what I can come up with.

Some older versions don't install ffdshow's VFW codec correctly and I think that build is one of them. So if it doesn't show up in VDubMod, that would be why.
