I look in chapter 7 and see:

This section includes the following topics:
    • “Creating Subtitles in Scenarist” on page 112
    • “Importing Subtitles” on page 115

    Importing Subtitles

Scenarist can import subtitle script files that reference subtitle assets created in another
program. For information on preparing subtitle assets, see “Preparing Subtitle Assets” on
    page 41.
To import subtitles with a script file:
1 In the Track Editor directory area, select the track to which you will import the subtitles.
2 Choose Tools > Import Subtitle, or click the Import Subtitle button in the Tools Bar. The
    Subtitle Import dialog opens.
3 Select Stream 1 (if it is not already selected), then click the File Path button for Stream 1.
    An Open dialog opens.
4 Select the subtitle script file for the subtitle stream you want to import, then click Open.
The path appears in the Stream 1 row in the Subtitle Import dialog, and the script file’s
settings appear in the Property Browser.
5 Repeat the previous steps for any additional stream numbers you want to import.
6 Click Start. When prompted, click Yes to proceed. The subtitles are imported to a new
subpicture stream. A new asset folder containing the encoded subtitles is added to the
Data Editor; the name of the folder is baed on the type of subtitle imported.
Note: If using the Import Subtitle dialog after some streams have already been registered,
make sure to select the appropriate stream number for subsequent imports.

    Locating Missing Subtitles on Import

During the import process, an error message may appear in the Subtitle Import Message
    window, stating:
Can’t open first Subpicture image File [path].
The path shown in the error message, which is the same as the path in the subtitle
command script file, does not match the location of the subtitle assets. To correct this
problem, open the script file in a text editor, change the directory path to match the path to
the assets, and repeat the subtitle import procedure.
